Lauren Laverne on Fashion: Shopping with a clear conscience
"What is a cynic? A man who knows the price of everything and the value of nothing." Oscar Wilde's famous quote always comes back to me. I thought several times in the course of the collapse of the Rana Plaza factory in Bangladesh. More than 1,120 bodies removed from the wreckage of the eight-storey building. For some Rana Plaza tragedy is a matter of crime, and in fact there were several arrests, including engineers who added illegally several floors shoddily for building and factory built accused the ordered employees who work on the morning of collapse after safety concerns were raised.
You can directly guilty, but it is dishonest to pretend that we are not connected to this tragedy. Government officials blamed the incessant roar of machinery for the collapse of the building. Who are we, if whirring needles? Can you be sure that you are unaware of the workers who entered the plant was today morning and was never sewn at home? Neither do I.
Column this week, then, is a plea for producers of fashion for the traceability of the supply chain and a reference to brands and services that make these things for the consumer. Frustrating at the upper end of the market such liability is easier to find, but there is no reason why the High Street should be freed offer similar guarantees. Lucy Siegle, as in this paper that the big brands to distance themselves from their factories where goods are produced as part of their business model. It helps to protect their profit margins. If consumer demand, they are responsible for large enough, they will.
The other half of the price-value-Wildean aphorism is less often mentioned, but it's worth considering, "and a sentimental ... This is a man who sees an absurd value in everything, and not know that the market price for a single thing. "
Often the argument against buying Fair Trade (or introduce all kinds of guarantees for the working conditions of a garment was made) is one of the prizes. It may seem pretentious to ask for anyone more than they pay for it for a t-shirt, especially in times of financial difficulty. But as the wages of the employees represented in the clothing industry a small fraction of the cost of an article (about 1-3%), could significantly improve their situation, a slight increase in prices.
At present, however, if you be sure that the workers who suffer made your clothes do not want to invest in fair trade, is the only option. It may cost more, but the price of a garment is not just a label - there is more than one type of cost. How cheap is nothing if someone dies in order to keep the price low?

The fashion trends The ten men
This winter, look at the latest fall 2013 collections for inspiration.
1 The costume
Gentlemen, you understand the importance of a good costume, but playing with a renewed concept dress up on the catwalks from Armani to Zegna suit is still fashion forward. Slimline colorful costumes, including cobalt (later) and prints, including all kinds of controls (ditto) are an update in a timely manner to traditional colors and finishes. However, these traditional colors and surfaces are timeless, only update with a focus on the new wide notch and peak lapels, and maybe add some gentleman or a turtleneck accessories (more on that later, too).
2 The grayscale
There are more than 50 shades of gray, and this season, they should be all embracing. Better yet, they carry both, in their different shades and if you dare, add copies and texture in this area, such as Viktor & Rolf and Bottega Veneta. Start with a simple costume, as shown in Givenchy and add a gray shirt and a tie or a turtleneck for a more relaxed look work. In sporting terms, mixing pants, a gray chunky knit scarf and coat in shades of gray. The overall effect is much more than the sum of its parts.
3 The Bomber
With its close cousin baseball jacket (who prefer pop zippers), infiltrated the suicide bombers both men and women wear this season, like Givenchy, Calvin Klein Collection, Roberto Cavalli, Emporio Armani and Hermes seen. Not as a substitute for the Blazers, they are simply no longer the weekend. This incarnation is much closer to the body and provides a clean silhouette. With manufacturing complex, including the latest hi-tech varieties, some frankly with glossy or iridescent sheen or mixtures of luxury fabrics such as leather and wool, the new bomber, it's the bomb.
4 The top layer
According to the study, the coat is the key element for the winter. Seen on almost every podium in January, including Burberry Prorsum, Jil Sander, Ermenegildo Zegna, Prada and Louis Vuitton, it offers both the perfect winter holiday cover-up and the ability to make a serious style statement. For the latter, you can bold (Tiger, anyone?) Or a prominent color (burgundy or mustard?) Appearance, but if it is something more versatile, which will last for several seasons, classic camel, black or gray (we have already mentioned already gray?) are ideal. This is a bullion coin - you can find high-quality fabrics such as wool and cashmere.
5 REVIEW
Do you want to check on this? Tartans, houndstooth, plaid and line controls are on everything from suits (Gucci, Louis Vuitton) and coats (Jil Sander), jumper (Bottega Veneta) and shirts (St. Lawrence). This season, look for giant checks as large as you feel comfortable, and for the very brave attempt to confront them - in this case, for patterns of similar magnitude. The great thing about the controls, in particular tiles is that they can look very classic and fashion forward, in terms of execution. It's a win-win situation dress.
6 THE turtleneck
Whether you prefer turtleneck, rolled or poloneck neck, this neck-warming Knitting is your go-to for dressing for winter comfort. Those who have a stocky, artisanal feel are the ultimate in comfortable, but more compact designs are perfect for layering clothing. Wear the style in the mantle over, as seen from Hermes, or a cloak, as Daks, put Topman Design textured knitwear in baggy clothes, while Alexander McQueen offered in bold two-tone versions.
7 The back of the CONTRAST
Sometimes it's the little things that so much to say. The back hand is one of those details that you put on top of the entire section. sharp lapels, wide lapels Shawl Lapel - reverse contrast in all the current styles. Louis Vuitton has offered bold brocade tuxedo lapel with contrast black scarf, Gucci has changed the top half of the collars on coats and Emporio Armani fit cuffs. If you really want to embrace the look, try matching a T-shirt or knit to your lapel.
8 ACCESSORIES The gentleman
This new way of dressing translated through accessories. The "Mandy" - or a dandy man - had something to do with this trend, following in the footsteps of the preppy guy. Open Bow ties and wallets the way here - especially those in bold, contrasting colors -. Well look surfaces, including leather gloves, classic glasses, slippers and suspenders Although this information has been observed in a number of shows, DSquared2 offered a great outlet, casual, casual bow tie and matching pocket squares with rolled up jeans, jackets and flannel.
9 THE BLUES
This winter, do not sing it, wear it. All shades of blue podiums infiltrated, at Emporio Armani Gucci cobalt in powder blue. Bold blue suit were discovered, while Calvin Klein Collection went up and down between midnight Balenciaga and Jil Sander. Agreement and clear coats offer a modern update of traditional navy shades. And those blue are sure to cheer you up, despite the name.
10th THE EXPLORER
If you are among your hero Edmund Hillary, this is a trend that should appeal. The look is casual explorer at its best, with large cable knitting, hiking shoes, hats and rugged outerwear, such as jackets and duffel coats. The trend can check infiltrate this look (think plaid pants to Bally or fur coats hooded Tom Ford) as a turtleneck. Hiking boots are a staple of urban mesh with costumes and Canali trousers and classic Calvin Klein Collection. These elements can not help you climb Everest, but they will put you on the height of fashion.
